BRAND STORY

NEEDBY heritage was born to achieve the goal to preserve the traditions and techniques of the Japanese denim industry. While incorporating the traditional stone washing technology that Japan is praised for, our brand increased production efficiency to cover the decrease in the labor force while reducing wasteful chemicals and water. Our jeans evoke a good old classic look because of their basic and timeless designs. We keep preserving denim that utilizes traditional Japanese techniques and pass them on to generations to come.

NEEDBY heritage about

Fabric

NEEDBY heritage has developed its own original fabric, achieving both the authentic expression of denim and efficient production. Characterized by using open-end yarn, which requires fewer processing steps and consumes less energy during production. This yarn contains air between fibers, resulting in a plush, voluminous texture with a dry touch. Additionally, the uneven alignment of fibers creates a three-dimensional surface, enhancing the appearance of texture.

Finish

Stone wash is a technique of fading color without the use of chemicals. NEEDBY heritage employs stone wash processing as its main method to reduce unnecessary chemicals and contaminated water. While maintaining a commitment to the aesthetic appeal of denim, we simplify the processing and implement water-saving innovations. Through these techniques, we enhance production efficiency, enabling sustainable denim production and crafting the unique denim expression distinctive to NEEDBY heritage.

Dyeing

We prioritize indigo fabric dyeing with the eco-friendly i-Next method, aiming for zero dye disposal. Previously, around 2-3% of dye was discarded during the dyeing process. However, through advancements in dyeing machinery and process optimization, we've cut chemical usage by around 60%. Our cleaning process incorporates a water recycling system, achieving a 40% reduction in water consumption. Additionally, our black denim features a dyeing technique that reduces dye usage by 50% and water consumption by 10% compared to conventional methods, demonstrating our commitment to sustainable practices.

Details

Our patches are crafted with a commitment to "animal-free materials" and "resilience to processing." We use paper patches made from a blend of pulp and polyester, ensuring both animal-friendliness and durability for processing.
The buttons, made of silver-plated material, undergo a unique processing step during attachment, creating a distinctive charm and allowing you to appreciate individual variations in each button over time.

Fabric

Breaking away from conventional vintage concepts, we collaborated with Kaihara Co. to produce a selvage fabric using open-end yarn. Woven on vintage looms, this denim absorbs air, resulting in a softer finish compared to traditional methods.

Finish

To capture the meticulous and skilled craftsmanship required to embody the vintage-inspired texture, each piece is infused with the delicate touch of artisans. To achieve a weathered appearance, we intricately incorporate damages, toppings, and nuanced distressing from the belt to the hem, creating an atmosphere that mimics the authenticity of well-worn denim with genuine creases and whiskers as if worn over time.

Stitching

Throughout our designs, we pay homage to vintage denim enthusiasts by incorporating nostalgic details. Techniques such as sewing the coin pocket through the pocket lining, using rivets on the pocket interior, and opting for regular stitching instead of overlocking on the sides create a subtle and authentic vintage appeal that resonates with those who appreciate classic denim styles.
